Get a cheap sacrificial bristle brush. Soak your brush in hot water and blue dawn for as long as you want. Scrub with sacrificial bristle brush. It should come out pretty easy, or it needs to soak longer. When it's clean, rinse (both!) in water + white vinegar and dry.

That's what my hairdresser does. She said it takes another brush to clean a brush. I tried it and it works really well.

When you say "rinse in water + white vinegar", do you mean a mix of the two, or water followed by white vinegar? If the former, is the amount about half and half?
level 2
And you can reuse the bristle brush for subsequent cleanings of this or any other comb too.

What is a cheap sacrificial bristles brush? Could you provide and example?

I just use my fingers to pick them out. Then wash the brush.
level 2
Yeah, I think it's sort of fun picking it out
level 2
I do that too and if some bits are too hard to reach I use tweezers
level 2
When I was a kid I used to just pick it out while watching tv. I'm too lazy to do that now. If it's particularly bad I use a sewing seam ripper specifically bought for this purpose.
level 2
Hahaha I may be able to get into it!
level 2
That's what I do too. I also clean my hairbrush every time I brush my hair, so the buildup doesn't get bad.
level 2
Me too, and then all of the ball ends of the bristles fall off
level 1
I use a "seam ripper" tool and it works great.
level 2
That's a good idea. I pick them out with the end of a comb.
level 2
That is brilliant. Never would have occurred to me.
level 1
I soak mine in water and vinegar, than using tweezers or something similar sort of pull out the hairs and dust balls. Then wash again under running water.
level 2
That's exactly what I do too. It's almost impossible to remove them otherwise!
level 1
I once saw my hairdresser use a comb to remove lint and hair from a hairbrush so that's what I do now and it works a treat
level 2
This is what I do but eventually you'll inevitably pop off those little balls on the tip there. Then you need to buy a new brush.
level 1
I run a lighter under it real fast
